This 40-unit market-rate apartment building responds to the evolving urban fabric of Rochester with a contextually scaled, contemporary solution.

Located at a prominent corner in Rochester’s East End, Alexander and East Apartments introduces four stories of housing over structured parking, providing much-needed urban density while maintaining sensitivity to the surrounding neighborhood. Developed for a private client, the project balances development goals with design clarity—ensuring both functionality and long-term value.

FORM2 Architecture approached the design with a focus on proportion, massing, and street presence. The building’s articulated façade responds to its urban context with a rhythm that breaks down the scale, creating a more human-centered experience along the street. By placing parking below residential levels, the design maximizes the site’s use while elevating the living units—literally and experientially. The result is a durable, efficient structure that contributes to the city’s ongoing revitalization, reinforcing FORM2’s commitment to thoughtful urban integration and design that works at every scale.
